Well not quite 500 miles…..but just a few short miles to Websters Theatre in the heart of Glasgow’s West End. Yes, this May our full-time Musical Theatre students are set to present the hit musical SUNSHINE ON LEITH featuring the songs of The Proclaimers. The musical was written by River City creator Stephen Greenhorn and first produced by Dundee Rep with arrangements by Hilary Brooks.
The show enjoyed a hugely successful run several times at Dundee Rep before three very successful UK Tours and subsequently was made into a hit movie musical starring Jane Horrocks and Peter Mullen…and of course several GAMTA students!
Receiving rave reviews and described by The Guardian as ‘A show worth walking 500 miles for…and 500 more’ the touching love story tells the story of two young squaddies as they return from war in Afghanistan and charts their return to civilian life in Edinburgh. Charming and touching the score includes a host of hit songs from The Proclaimers including I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), I’m On My Way and Letter from America. The production will be directed by Tom Cooper, musical direction by Stuart Bird, choreography by Fergus Logan and licensed by Josef Weinberger. The show runs at Glasgow’s Websters Theatre from Wed 13th – Sat 16th May 7.30pm with matinees Thursday and Saturday. Tickets are available HERE or by calling our box office on 0141 354 0483.
