The Performer

Showcasing your performance

Throughout your GAMTA experience you will have the opportunity to perform. From the first week of your training you will perform for your peers and tutors in performance class. This is a peer lead class where students perform a range of material; acting pieces, solo songs, duets and dance pieces. The student audience is encouraged to offer constructive feedback on each performance. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore your own progress, push your boundaries, be creative and work with whomever you choose; creativity, technique, character, style and genre are only some of the elements explored within this class.  Performance class is one of the most important, and exciting, classes of your week.

First Year Performance

You will take part in two in-house performances: one musical and one play. You will continue to build your repertoire, resilience and skills through weekly performance class.

Second Year Performance

You will take part in at least two in-house performances, plus one fully-produced public production, where you will perform as ensemble. You will also take part in events across the UK  such as corporate events or Theatre In Education (TIE) workshops in schools. You will experience recording in a professional recording studio, creating tracks and vocals for performance purposes. You will continue to build your repertoire, resilience and skills through weekly performance class. At the end of each academic year you will enjoy performing a variety of musical theatre ensemble pieces. These will often to be performed in a large concert hall type venue, complete with full orchestra; an extraordinary experience for a student.

You will graduate with a BA Honours degree. Most importantly however, you will perform your  showcase, produced in a professional theatre venue in either Glasgow or Cardiff. Agents and casting directors from the Scottish, Welsh and wider UK theatre industry will attend these fully-staged musical productions.

Third Year Performance

You will perform two contrasting fully produced musicals and/or appear in a fully produced public pantomime. More importantly however,  you will perform in our phenomenally successful London Showcase.  You will have the opportunity to perform for key players in the industry, who will ‘kick start’ your career. Our industry showcase, performed in the heart of London’s West End,  is attended by the some of the Industry’s most important agents, and representation opportunities exist across all genres: film, theatre, musical theatre and television.
