The Elementary & Intermediate Schools
Elementary School - Wednesday 5-9pm
Saturday 9-1pm
The Elementary classes are intended for children Primary 4
to Secondary 2 who are interested in a career in Musical Theatre
and who may wish to progress to our Part-time MT School.
There are two class groupings within the Lower School; Elementary Lilac for the youngest students and Elementary Gold for the slightly older and advanced students.
Students are continually assessed within their class and formal assessments take place in the Spring with the issuing of a report and the opportunity for parents to discuss the progress of their child with staff. If a student is recommended for upgrade to the next level of class, this would normally take place at an appropriate point within the academic year as identified by the Tutors.
Pre-Elementary and Elementary students follow a comprehensive program including Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Fitness and Flexibility, Acting Skills, Ensemble Singing, Musicality and Performance Skills.
Performing is an important element of the courses at GAMTA. Students of the Elementary Course appear in our Christmas production at GAMTA regularly being featured in lead roles and perform in a musical in June.
Students may audition for the Elementary Course if they are entering P4, 5, 6 & 7 or S1 & 2. Initial selection is via an Open Day. Generally speaking, students would be expected to complete at least one term on our Prep School before starting the Elementary Class.
The Intermediate Class - Wednesday
5-9pm Saturday 9-1pm
The Intermediate class has been designed to allow students from
GAMTA (12yrs -16yrs) to access a more advanced and intensive level
of tuition in preparation for a vocational training.
This class will run alongside a similar timetable to the Elementary School and will involve the same tutors, intensity of training and expectation of students. Classes are 8 hours per week.
However, entry into this specialised preparatory class is by audition only. Auditions will be held twice yearly and only those who are successful will be selected for this unique training opportunity.
